AUDITION NOTICE: September in the Rain

WT is committed to being a diverse and open organisation. Auditions are open to anyone, regardless of background or experience, and we particularly welcome those who have been traditionally under-represented in theatre.

Please note that these auditions have now closed.

Before the new season starts in September we will be putting on a ‘COVID-friendly’ show, if government regulations and the virus permit!

It is ‘COVID-friendly’ in that it is a double hander, making rehearsals and performances easily socially distanced.

September in the Rain is a comedy drama by Britain’s third most produced playwright after Shakespeare and Ayckbourn. It is based on, and a tribute to John Godber’s grandparents exploring the ups and downs in the lifelong relationship of a down to earth Yorkshire couple. The play revolves around the fact that every year from their twenties to their sixties they holiday in Blackpool, always in September. It is a sad but richly comic love story. The time period is the 1950’s to the 1980’s.

The two actors playing the couple, Liz and Jack, also play any other characters as they emerge in the narrative, therefore I am looking for two actors who would enjoy the challenge of changing characters, ages and sometimes genders, throughout the play.

Actors could be any age from about 30 to 65 as at points in the play they will either have to age up or down. It is important that they look like a couple so I won’t be casting a 30 year old with someone who is 65! A good Yorkshire accent is vital and the ability to shift in and out of accents as characters change.

This is a full length play so for the two actors, facility with line learning is important.
