Founded back in 1947, Wokingham Theatre is a thriving community theatre group established to promote the enjoyment of all aspects of the theatre to the residents of Wokingham and beyond. WT is a registered charity, staffed and managed entirely by volunteers who give their time and skills to support all aspects of theatre life. The theatre is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors elected from the membership by democratic vote each year.
We present eight ‘main season’ shows per year each enjoying two-week runs, as well as a number of smaller-scale extras, new writing nights, rehearsed readings, workshops, and our annual Youth Theatre production, all in our own 160+ seat auditorium.
WT currently has over 250 members, some of whom are very active on stage, backstage, and in technical roles, but we’re also very dependent on a significant body of the membership who help out from time to time, undertaking a host of unsung tasks behind the scenes.
For every performance, our entire front of house team, from box office to bar are all volunteers, and with other duties like programme design, publicity, health and safety, and stage management, there can be up to 60 people involved with any one performance, as well as set building, costuming, technical design, there are any number of opportunities for anyone to get involved!
At nearly 75 years old, WT has a long and varied history of producing theatre in and around Wokingham. Find out more about where we came from, how we’ve grown, and our plans for the future.
WT’s membership is by far its biggest asset. From members who act on stage to staff in the bar, light our shows, even run our website, we’re all volunteers – and there’s always an opportunity to get involved with WT!
