About WT
Wokingham Theatre is a thriving amateur group. The theatre presents 8 'main' shows each year in a season that runs from mid-September through to the end of July. Each show normally runs for nine nights, opening on Thursday and running to the following Saturday. In addition there may be other 'extra' shows in between; there is the Youth Theatre production and the Theatre is also let for concerts or events or to other theatre companies.
We have around 200 members. Some are very active both 'on the boards' and in backstage and technical roles but we are also very dependent on a significant body of the membership who help out from time to time with a host of unsung tasks behind the scenes. For each night of each show we need a front of house manager together with a staff of at least six to run the various FOH duties including bar, coffees, programme, sweets and of course box office - that's over 60 people for every show.
That's in addition to those actually involved on and around the stage and in technical duties. These include the lighting and sound operators, properties, a team to look after wardrobe as well as stage management and production management. To produce our sets we have a hard working team who regularly work during the day each Tuesday and Thursday (they are most of them retired!). At other times you will find members rehearsing, working on lighting or sound, looking after our wardrobe or perhaps checking stock ready for the next production.
Then there is publicity, producing and printing programmes, producing and printing our monthly newsletter 'Prompt' - and so it goes on.
If you would like to join the Theatre and lend a hand, whatever your talents may be we can use them!
